Justin Rose Signs Multi-Year Deal With McLaren Golf
Justin Rose, the 2013 U.S. Open champion and Olympic gold medalist, has signed a multi-year partnership with McLaren Golf, the luxury automotive brand's new golf equipment division. The deal, announced Tuesday, makes Rose the first high-profile PGA Tour player to endorse McLaren's premium clubs and accessories.
The partnership comes as McLaren Golf prepares to launch its first line of drivers, irons, and putters later this year. Rose, currently ranked 45th in the world, will provide feedback on product development while using the equipment in competition. Financial terms were not disclosed, but industry sources estimate the deal is worth mid-seven figures annually.
The move is trending in the U.S. as golf fans speculate whether McLaren's Formula 1 engineering expertise can translate to high-performance clubs. Rose, known for his technical precision, called the collaboration "a perfect fit" in a statement. The 45-year-old Englishman has won 11 PGA Tour events, including the 2018 FedEx Cup.
McLaren entered the golf market last year after acquiring a stake in premium club manufacturer XXIO. Analysts say the Rose signing signals McLaren's ambition to compete with industry leaders like Titleist and Callaway. Early social media reaction has been mixed, with some questioning whether auto engineering can disrupt golf's traditional equipment hierarchy.
Rose will debut McLaren clubs at next month's PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club. The deal includes branding on his bag, hat, and apparel. McLaren Golf CEO David Abeles said Rose's "methodical approach to the game aligns with our design philosophy."
The partnership marks Rose's first major equipment deal since splitting with Honma in 2021. He has been testing prototype McLaren clubs during recent Tour events. Industry watchers will closely monitor whether the high-tech clubs help revive Rose's game after a winless 2025 season.
McLaren becomes the latest non-endemic brand to enter golf's competitive equipment space, following similar moves by Bose (golf balls) and BMW (putters). The company plans to reveal full product details at a July launch event in New York.
