Arc Raiders Delayed Again, Devs Promise Major Overhaul
Embark Studios has announced another delay for its highly anticipated free-to-play shooter Arc Raiders, pushing the release to early 2027. The news, confirmed in a developer blog post Tuesday morning, follows months of silence and comes as a disappointment to fans who expected a 2026 launch.
The Stockholm-based studio, founded by former Battlefield developers, cited the need for a "fundamental rework" of core gameplay systems. Creative director Gustav Tilleby stated the team is shifting from a purely PvE experience to include PvP elements, responding to player feedback from recent closed tests.
Social media reactions have been mixed, with some praising the transparency while others expressed frustration over the extended wait. The game first entered development in 2018 and was originally slated for a 2022 release before being delayed multiple times.
Industry analysts note the move reflects growing pressure in the live-service shooter market, where competitors like Helldivers 2 and The Finals (also from Embark) have raised player expectations. The delay announcement trended across gaming forums and Twitter/X throughout Tuesday morning.
Embark confirmed all pre-order bonuses will carry over to the new release window. The studio plans to host another round of beta testing later this year, though no exact dates were provided.
This marks the fourth major delay for Arc Raiders, which was initially revealed at The Game Awards 2021. The game's unique retro-futuristic aesthetic and cooperative robot-hunting premise had generated significant hype prior to today's announcement.
