White House Correspondents' Dinner Returns To Washington Hilton

The White House Correspondents' Dinner is back at its traditional venue, the Washington Hilton, this Saturday night. The annual event, which brings together journalists, politicians, and celebrities, is trending as Americans anticipate President Biden's speech and comedian Roy Wood Jr.'s performance.

This marks the first full-capacity dinner since 2019, following pandemic cancellations and scaled-back events. The WHCA confirmed 2,600 attendees will gather in the Hilton's International Ballroom, where the dinner has been held since 1981 except during COVID disruptions.

Public interest spiked this week as final preparations unfolded. Social media is buzzing about expected attendees including Cabinet members, Supreme Court justices, and Hollywood figures like Jon Hamm. The dinner's return to normalcy symbolizes Washington's post-pandemic recovery.

Security will be tight following last year's fence-jumping incident. D.C. police announced enhanced measures around the Hilton, located at 1919 Connecticut Avenue NW. The event begins at 5:30 PM ET with red carpet arrivals before the 7 PM program.

President Biden's speech is particularly anticipated after his 2023 remarks drew mixed reviews. Correspondents' Association president Kelly O'Donnell said this year's theme celebrates "the vital role of journalism in democracy" amid election-year tensions.

C-SPAN will broadcast the dinner live starting at 9:30 PM ET. Viewership is expected to surpass last year's 1.8 million as political humor takes center stage during a contentious election season.
